Black out Loyola!

Maybe we don't really have a football team and our best basketball player is academically ineligible for the fall semester, but UMBC does have a chance to score some bragging rights in the athletic arena tonight. At 7 pm, the Retrievers' undefeated (really, they have actually played games) men's soccer team takes on crosstown rival Loyola College with "best team in Baltimore" honors on the line. Both teams beat Towson last week by identical 1-0 scores, although UMBC also gave them swine flu, and have also defeated Mt. St. Mary's. UMBC is 7-0-0 and the only undefeated men's Division I team in the nation, but they can't sniff the Top 25 in the Coaches' Poll because, as we all know, the powers that be in sports all hate Baltimore. They are ranked 27th in the nation by College Soccer News. Before the season, again because everyone outside Baltimore hates Baltimore, they were picked to finish last in the America East Conference. It looks like at the very least the America East coaches are going to be eating some humble pie. Anyway, if you went to or go to UMBC and are still in Baltimore unlike me, get your arse over to Hilltop Circle and wear black. Apparently Loyola is bringing at least three busloads of students, so the Retrievers need to show them whose house it is.
